ABC Rugby is designed to help integrate and maintain successful rugby programmes in both private and state schools and grassroots clubs. ABC Rugby focuses on providing clients with 5 main areas to improve the standard of teaching in rugby, they include: safety, training, pedagogy, compliance and professional development.
My Story
My name is Dan Gower and I am the founder of ABC Rugby. I am a lucky man with an incredibly wife and son, who are so supportive of me and love them dearly. I have been in teaching for 9 years and I have always had a passion for rugby. I was lucky enough to be able to play rugby all the way through school and I truly believe that it has helped shape me to be the persona I am today. I owe a lot to rugby and feel that ABC Rugby is my way of saying thank you.
I am trained as Primary School Teacher, who has always found himself gravitating towards the sport aspect of school life. I started off my career in Gloucester, where the head of PE at the time gave me control of the rugby team. At this level is was a Gloucester School Tag League, the GPSFA. Here I built the team and competed against schools with better resources, more children and more flexibility with the time table and performed to a good level making the finals in our first season. Whilst here I also made positive impact with rugby in the curriculum, planning and running an effective Rugby World Cup Week which involved every child working side by side with Hartbury College.
My next chapter was a move back to Wiltshire to an independent school. At the time rugby has not even on the agenda, which was strange for a independent school near Bath. I started small with an after school club where 3 children attended. This then grew and over the course of 2 years boasts an impressive 3 teams competing almost every week and exceeding expectations. Here I implemented an effective training regime, developed relationships with the students and brought the values of rugby into everyday school life, whilst inspiring staff around me to do the same.
As well as this, I am also a coach at Corsham RFC and more recently a performance and DPP coach for Bath Rugby. This gives me valuable experience at grassroots level whilst of course thoroughly enjoying it!
